Window Tint Aftercare

The Short Answer

Leave It Alone While It Dries

After window tinting, keep the windows up until the film has bonded, do not clean the inside of the glass during that time, and expect some haze while moisture dries out. Cold weather slows all of this down. Ask us at pickup how long to wait for your film.

Tint is applied with a slip solution that has to evaporate through the film. Until it does, the film can still move if the window rolls down and catches the edge on the seal.

The First Days

What Happens While the Film Dries

Why the windows stay up

The top edge of a door window slides into a rubber seal every time you roll it down. If the film has not bonded yet, that seal can catch the edge and peel it back. Put a piece of tape over the switches if someone in the family tends to forget.

Haze and small bubbles

A slightly milky look, or small pockets of water under the film, is moisture that has not evaporated yet. It usually clears as the film dries. Parking in the sun helps in warmer months. Do not press on the pockets to push them out.

Winter installs take longer

Cold, damp air slows drying. A car tinted in January can take noticeably longer to clear than one done in July. That is normal and not a sign that anything went wrong.

Long-Term Care

Keeping Tint Clear for Years

Clean it softly

Use a clean microfibre cloth and a glass cleaner without ammonia. Spray the cloth, not the window, so cleaner does not run down into the door seal. Paper towels and abrasive pads leave fine scratches on film.

Watch rings, seat belts and cargo

Most tint damage is mechanical. A ring dragged across the glass, a seat belt buckle that slaps the window, or a box slid into the back can nick the film. Small nicks are hard to hide once they happen.

No scrapers on the inside

Clear frost from the inside with the defroster. Never use an ice scraper or a blade on the inside of tinted glass.

Stickers and suction cups

Adhesive parking passes and suction mounts can lift or mark film when they come off. If you need a pass on the glass, ask us where it can go safely.

FAQ

Common Questions

How long should I keep the windows up after tint?

Long enough for the film to bond, and longer in cold, damp weather. The right wait depends on the film, so ask us at pickup and follow that rather than a number from the internet.

Is it normal to see haze or small water pockets at first?

Some haze or small pockets of moisture can show while the film dries out, especially in cool weather. They usually clear on their own. If something is still there after the drying period, call us.

What should I clean tinted windows with?

A soft microfibre cloth and a cleaner without ammonia. Ammonia-based glass cleaners and rough pads can damage tint over time.

Will the rear defroster damage the film?

Normal use of the defroster does not hurt properly installed film. What hurts it is scraping the inside of the rear glass, so do not use an ice scraper on the inside.
